Dear Families,
I can hardly believe that it is almost December. Our boys and girls have learned so much during the last couple of months.
For our STEAM project some students have already brought in indestructible pig houses. They are going to face the classroom blow dryer wolf on Monday, December 2nd.

READING:
Next week we are going to determine the main idea in nonfictional text. Our first graders are going to study the life cycle of penguins, the habitats of polar bears and we continue learning more about the continent of Africa.
Social Studies
We will be reading the book "Africa Is Not A Country". Our students will not only find the main idea of the chapters in the book, they will engage in hands-on lessons and activities. The students will work in groups focusing on African animals and determining on their map where they live.
Math : In Math we concentrate on Graphing. We collect data such as What would you do if you were principal, What season do you like best, What holiday is your favorite? Our first grade enjoy collecting data from our class, counting and interpreting the data in the end. The students will develop their understanding of the questions: "How many more .... or less?" And "How many participants ....... all together.?" How can you as parent help? Practice counting and skip counting by 10's and addition/subtraction facts.
Science:
We are still studying Force and Motion we our Pig house project. Some students have already brought in pig houses they created. Before we let our blow dryer wolf try to blow down the houses, our students will predict whether the wolf can blow down the house or not and put our predictions into a chart. Since our students are so clever building houses our wolf is not able to blow down, I will bring some houses that might not stand the "wolf test". Your student will receive a reward for his/her stable house at the end of the week.
